Ability to conduct test in a lab setting involving pH, Alkalinity, Hardness, Chlorine residual, Nephelometer, Chlorite, Chlorine Dioxide, and metals/minerals.
Responsible for making treatment decisions based on Raw water test analysis to ensure Safe drinking water standards are met.
Work involves responsibility for the efficient operation of a water treatment plant and routine adjustments to equipment and machinery operating controls.
An employee exercises independent judgment in making adjustments to machinery, equipment and related control apparatus in accordance with established procedures and standards.
Engages in maintaining and operating various types of pumps, motors, chemical feed equipment, cleaning, and customer service during and after hours.
Unusual or major problems are reported to the man on call for resolution.
Work is normally performed with another treatment plant chemist on shift; but at sometimes will be performed alone.
Work is reviewed by a supervisor through observation and analysis of chemical trends and reports.
Examples of Work Performed Takes samples of raw and treated water at various stages of the treatment process, performs routine laboratory test analysis to determine effectiveness of treatment procedures and records results.
Inspects water plant equipment and machinery to determine that all machinery is operating properly.
Adjusts control devices of processes to provide effective treatment; operates gates, valves, and other mechanical equipment; inspects and adjusts treatment plant equipment, such as chlorinators, flocculators, sludge collectors, filters, chemical feeders, storage tanks, and related equipment; inspects charts and meters and based on recorded information, adjusts controls in conformance with operating instructions.
Takes after hours phone calls and deals with customers emergencies and reconnects while using TWU billing system to make decisions on customer billing.
Observing security cameras to ensure the safekeeping of two Treatment facilities.
Watches over the SCADA system to ensure all facilities are functioning correctly and maintain acceptable amounts of water and pressure.
Operates a chlorine dioxide processing facility.
Reads and records data registered on telemetering gauges involving levels, pressure and various supply and distribution data.
Maintains records and reports of operations.
Makes written records and notifies appropriate personnel on duty or on emergency standby.
Reports malfunctions of equipment immediately to supervisor or man on emergency standby.
Does all types of janitorial work as needed daily to maintain a clean and safe working facility.
May be required to perform various grounds maintenance duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Experience in Lab settings with the ability to process samples to determine water chemistry.
Ability to perform Algebra, unit conversions, Dimensional analysis, and ratios.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions required of work.
Ability to maintain accurate and detailed operating records.
Considerable knowledge of the operating principles and practices applicable to water treatment plant equipment and machinery.
Ability to accurately follow routine operating and recording procedures and to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing.
Ability to input information into a CRT computer terminal following basic oral or written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees as necessitated by the work.
Ability to detect faulty operating characteristics in equipment or processes and make minor mechanical repairs or adjustments.
Ability to perform various physical duties such as walking, climbing stairs and ladders, twisting, turning, lifting heavy items, digging, shoveling and manually operating gates and valves.
Ability to work shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, exposed to noxious fumes, toxic chemicals, inspects and loud noises from machinery.
Minimum Qualification Requirements Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school with a GED.
Licenses and Certificates Must possess and maintain a Class C surface license in Texas or be able to obtain one within one year of the approval to test letter from TCEQ.
Required to possess and maintain a valid State of Texas or Arkansas driver's license.
Must have a personal communication device or be able to be contacted in the event of an emergency work situation.
