Recycling Technician (Correctional)

The incumbent serves as a Recycling Technician in the Environmental and Safety Compliance Department of a Bureau of Prisons (BOP) federal correctional facility. Under the supervision of the Environmental and Safety Compliance Administrator, the incumbent is responsible for all phases of recycling, solid waste collections, disposal programs, and environment regulations including maintenance of equipment and tools. Incumbent is directly responsible for the collection and processing of all mandatory recyclable materials and making periodic surveys of all areas on the institution to ensure compliance with the recycling policy. Incumbent provides inmates with training in all areas of recycling administration procedures and rates the performance of all inmates through preparation of performance evaluations. The incumbent supervises and trains inmates in the proper operation and maintenance of equipment such as the bailer, tractor, and forklift. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis. To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements. Education:
As a general rule, education is not credible above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.
Experience:
You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled. Some examples of this qualifying experience are:
Experience with interpreting and applying federal, state, and local regulations and policies, relating to recycling programs. Experience which demonstrates knowledge of recycling principles, concepts and methods and performing a variety of duties involving coordination, monitoring, oversight or evaluation of recycling programs, projects or activities. Experience in providing supervision and training to others on various recycling methods and associated equipment. OR Combination of Education and
Experience:
A combination of education and experience. This experience must have equipped you with the qualifications to perform the major duties of this position as described above. Credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
