Police Officer - Direct Hire Authority
Who May Apply: US Citizens This announcement is a Direct Hire solicitation. Category rating, veteran's preference, and traditional rating and ranking of applicants do NOT apply for this vacancy. This is a developmental position to the target grade of GS-07. Management may be filled at either grade: GS-05, GS-06, or GS-07. In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. (GS-05) Specialized
Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Performing routine security/patrol duties such as patrolling roadways, parking lots, or high traffic areas; 2) Assisting at accident scenes; or 3) Directing traffic of vehicles and pedestrians at worksites. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). Experience must have provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. (Note: Successful completion of a Federal, State, county, or municipal police academy or comparable training course which included at least 40 classroom hours of instruction in police department procedures and methods, and local law and regulations, may be substituted for three months of specialized experience.) OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level in an accredited school leading to a bachelor's degree in political science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position. Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 120. Add the two percentages. (GS-06) Specialized
Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Monitoring in traffic or taking charge at accident or crime scene; 2) Assisting with investigations, preparing incident/accident reports; and 3) Detaining and apprehending violators. Experience must have provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. To qualify at the GS-06 level you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. NOTE: To be considered for the GS-06 full performance level, you must have graduated from the US Army Civilian Police Academy and you must provide a copy of your transcript or certificate of completion with your application package. GS-07: Specialized
Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Responding to emergency call, exercising search, and arrest authority; 2) Conducting traffic law enforcement using equipment such as radar, Lidar, and breathalyzers; 3) Performing Anti-terrorism (AT) duties to deter, detect, and deny unauthorized access to installation; and 4) Securing accident scenes by initially controlling and containing treats to safety and security.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. To qualify at the GS-07 level you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. NOTE: To be considered for the GS-07 full performance level, you must have graduated from the US Army Civilian Police Academy and you must provide a copy of your transcript or certificate of completion with your application package.
